This is going to be interesting…

“Ms. Jourová said as the new rules take effect, countries outside Europe could begin demanding similar data protection measures for their citizens.

“There will be a moment, especially as more and more people in the U.S. find themselves uncomfortable with the channels monitoring their private lives,” she said.”

I do believe as we start to see things play out with the GDPR, more people in the US will be looking at how privacy rules work, or don’t work, here by comparison. The other thing that I predict is that the tools that exist on Facebook and Google that they claim they just “aren’t rolling out in Europe”, are going to prove to be problematic anyway.

For example, if I’m in Europe and take photos of people I know, then return to the US and upload them, how does Facebook know not add them to their facial recognition tool? These kinds of issues may eventually lead to these tracking features being pulled for everyone.
